The draft comprehensive management plan and environmental assessment (CMP) for the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail is now available for public review on the trail’s planning website at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/stsp_cmp. The thirty-day review and comment period will close on May 21, 2012. The NPS Chesapeake Bay Office has worked closely with the state of Maryland’s Office of Tourism Development and State Highway Administration to complement and align the plan with management of Maryland’s Star-Spangled Banner Scenic Byway. Since the trail’s designation in 2008, many federal, state, and local partners have contributed to planning the trail relative to the upcoming War of 1812 bicentennial. The CMP lays out a twenty-year vision for trail development and management that builds on the 2012-2015 commemoration. A CD or print copy may be obtained by emailing STSP_Information@nps.gov or by calling the trail office at 410-260-2488. The document may also be reviewed at the trail office at 410 Severn Avenue, Suite 314, Annapolis, MD 21403.
The public may read additional documents and provide comments online at the trail’s planning website: http://parkplanning.nps.gov/stsp_cmp or by sending an email to STSP_Information@nps.gov. Comments may also be sent by letter to the trail superintendent at 410 Severn Avenue, Suite 314, Annapolis, MD 21403.
